The Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus is showcasing new prototype phone, the OnePlus Concept One. OnePlus is working with McLaren, British automotive manufacturer for same glass technology used in high-end car sunroofs and aircraft windows. OnePlus want to use this technology in their upcoming phone. The camera lens on the back of the phone hide behind this special glass. The glass tint change when the glass is triggered by electrical signal by phone. It will use to hide the camera lens when camera turn off and on.

OnePlus Concept One at CES 2020

OnePlus Plans to introduce the concept phone at the coming annual CES electronics bonanza in Las Vegas next week. Company says there is no plans to launch this smartphone at anytime soon. Pete Lau, the OnePlus Cofounder and CEO, this phone represents a “bold exploration for OnePlus and is also a representation of overcoming a lot of challenges.”

Pete Lau also said, “With this approach, we’ll be able to produce smaller amounts of the product and, with feedback from a small group of users, look at the possibility of making a device that’s available for users more widely,”.

The OnePlus Concept One has similar camera specifications as the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren edition. 48 Megapixel main camera with 16 Megapixel ultra wide angle camera. The OnePlus Concept differ only with the glass on these cameras. The glass technology effectively hide the cameras, lenses only will appear while using the camera only.

McLaren Glass Technology

This is not the new invention at all. The glass technology is already being using McLaren 720S & McLaren 570GT sports car with extra costing of $9,100. The OnePlus creative director, Xi Zeng, saw the glass on a McLaren 720S while touring McLaren’s headquarters in Woking, England, and wondered whether it could be applied to smaller personal devices. The company was intrigued enough to dedicate a group of engineers to the idea starting at the end of 2018.
